Recap of last nights AL action and a look ahead to Saturday.

Rays 9  Texas 0
Could the Rays do any Moore?

Sorry I couldn't resist but how about the Rays pitcher today.  I mean the kid is making as second major league start and its on the road at Texas not to mention it is the playoffs.  22 years old at that.  I mean when I was 22 I thought I was cool because I bought a used Toyota Tacoma Truck that only had 30,000 miles on it. This guy has me beat I guess you could say.  Anyways, what a great performance by this young guy to get the Rays started off right in the playoffs.  On a side note Kelly Shopach hit 2 homers which is about as shocking as when I found out the Hills reality show was scripted.  Needless to say pretty shocking.

Detroit 1 New York 1
Rain out.  I was really looking forward to this game tonight.  Great match up and of course the silly rain got in the way.  I guess they pick it up tomorrow at 8:37. On a positive note I guess Derek Jeter got a few more hours on a Friday night to try to pick up some tail.

Tomorrows Games

Tampa Bay at Texas  7:07 TNT
Pitchers
Tampa Bay- Shields
Texas-Holland

Big Game James or complete game James on the hill for the Rays tomorrow. The Rangers have Holland going.  Its a night game in Texas and I have to think with Moore being a new pitcher those Texas hitters hasn't seen yet had to effect their offense today but, do I still keep doubting the Rays at this point?  Well it seems when I do they win so I look for Texas to bounce back and even up the series tomorrow night.  Wink wink Rays that means go win the dang game and head back to the Bay up 2-0.

Detroit at New York 8:37 TBS

Pitchers
Detroit-Pfister
New York-Nova

Since the rain out both teams will have to adjust what they are doing as far as starting pitching goes.  The Yanks have  Nova going and the Tigers have Pfister going a guy they picked up mid season and has been solid for them.   I picked Detroit to win the first game because they had Verlander on the bump but, now with the shuffle I will pick New York to win the re adjsuted game 1.  Going off what I am hearing Verlander and Sabithia will pitch in game 3 which would be in Detroit.

St. Louis at Philadelphia 5:07 TBS
Pitchers
St. Louis- Lohse
Philadelphia-Halladay

St. Louis kind of has the Rays story feel they came back for 8 and half games to take out Atlanta.  However, I think the Phillie's are the best team in the NL hands down.  Especially with their all star pitching staff.  Halladay threw a no hitter in his first post season start last year.  I don't expect that to happen but the Phillie's all day on this one.

Arizona at Milwaukee 2:07 TBS
Pitchers
Arizona-Kennedy
Milwaukee-Gallardo

Probably a reason this game is on at 2:07.  Who cares?  I am an American League guy but I know Millwaukee had an awesome home record and they have Prince I don't eat meat Fielder.  Bro who you fooling you weigh like 300 pounds and you don't eat meat?  Doubt it.  Anyways I know the Brewers also have Ryan Braun who is a stud and potential NL MVP.  I will go with the Brewers at home with the potential of Fielder eating a cheeseburger after the game.

There it is.  What do you think.  If there is anyone who follows the National League more then me please break down my picks.

AL Playoffs kick it off tonight

Tampa Bay at Texas 5:07 TBS

Starting Pitchers
TB-Matt Moore
Tex-C.J. Wilson

This game kicks off the playoffs and it should be a good one.  Will the Rays be able to regroup and get focused for the task at hand?  Will Texas continue to dominate Tampa? My thoughts are I'm not going to bet against Tampa to win this series but I think Texas takes this first game.  C.J. Wilson has dominated Tampa which includes the regular season along with the division series last year when Texas and Tampa played.  The Rays send out Matt Moore a young promising lefty who throws around 97 mph. This will be his second major league start.  The Rays just made this switch yesterday they were going to start Neiman but then switched.  Not sure about the move but then again Joe Maddon put a pinch hitter in the game the other night who is hitting .108 for the year and the guy hits a miracle home run so who am I to question the mad genius?

Detroit at New York 8:37 TBS

Starting Pitchers

Det-Justin Verlander(2011 possible MVP/Cy Young winner)
NY-C.C.Sabathia

Lets see the Yanks aren't my favorite team but they let Tampa sweep them to get into the playoffs so maybe their not that bad.  As far as the game can anyone stop Verlander this year?  Doesn't look like it but Sabathia has had a pretty decent season (although the guys uniform looks like big baggy pajamas) and its in New York so its a tough pick.  All my Detroit friends tell me this is the year and it might be. Detroit has been rock solid all year and they have a good offense as well so it should be one heck of a series it has more of an ALCS feel to it.  I'm going with Detroit in game 1 Verlander is unstoppable as a matter of fact Verlander might just pitch the whole series that's how good he as been.  So lets see.

I'm just going to pick a winner on the games for the playoffs. Trying pick a score for a MLB game is like trying to predict how many times my kid is going to ask me to take him to the park in a 1 day period.   Which is a lot and hard to judge how many times I actually end up going back to the same old park.   Anyways any other predictions out there?

What a crazy last night of baseball........American League Drama

Does it get much better then last night if your a baseball fan?  Notice I said baseball fan and not a Braves or Red Sox fan.  I'm sure those people had a sleepless night last night with more to come. I started watching the Rays game around 7 with my son in the background saying go Cardinals, which I told him was the right team to root for most of the time but not in baseball.  I quickly got him on the Go Rays chant.  So in the first inning of the Rays game Ben Zobrist lets a ground ball go through his legs at second and Curtis Granderson scores for the Yanks to make it 1-0 in the first.  At the time I wasn't thinking it was to much of  a big deal it was only the first and there was plenty of game left.  However, I didn't realize the Rays were going into one of their offense slumps like they have many times before this season.  To top that off the Yanks continued to add runs I think Mark Texiera hit 5 homers last night...just kidding but he did pound David Price.  So I kind of started flipping back and forth between the Red Sox Orioles Game but it seemed like when I turned it back to the Yanks game they had scored another run.  Eventually it got to be 7-0 in the Yanks favor.  The Red Sox were leading the Orioles 3-2 didn't have the good vibes at this time for the Rays season to continue but then came the 8th inning. I had just flipped back to the Rays game and the bases were loaded with no outs so I thought maybe there is a chance if they can do something here they must have thought they same thing. The Yanks walked in a run, hit Sean Rodriguez to bring in a run, there was a Sac fly and the Longoria hits a 3 run blast to bring the game to 7-6.  I jumped off the coach clapping and screaming I'm surprised my wife and kid never woke up.  Anyways we were going into the ninth still down a run but something that could happen I thought.  Still checking in on the Red Sox game they were still up 3-2 and they went in to a rain delay. So the bottom of the ninth came and the Rays went down to 2 quick outs the Joe the Jedi Maddon summoned Dan Johnson to pinch hit off the bench. He was in for one reason we all knew and that was to hit a bomb and tie this thing up and with 2 strikes and 2 outs Dan Johnson did what must people dreamed about when they were kids at least boys did he hit it out to tie the game.  Okay we dream to hit a homer to win the game but work with me here this was pretty awesome. So on into Extras meanwhile Boston was still in a rain delay and I was thinking it looks like Boston will probably win so if we can pull this game off we will at least get to see one more day.  So it makes it to the 12th inning and I'm thinking we have to do something because eventually the Yanks are going to score so we need to score.  During the break I flipped to the Red Sox game and PappelBUM was in and he got 2 outs so I was thinking well maybe if the Rays can pull it out we will at least get to play them tomorrow but, then Reimold from the Orioles hit a double but that's when I flipped it back to the Rays game then I heard the crowd to cheering even louder when nothing was going on to find out the Orioles had tied the game.  Then I swear it was like right when Longoria was stepping up to the plate and the crowd got loud again  and they flashed the score on the TV the Orioles had won.  Then it seemed literally like a minute later Longoria hit a game winning home run.   I seriously couldn't believe it I was watching basically 5 hours of baseball with the extra innings and the Boston rain delay and it all seemed to end within a period of minutes.  It all seemed like poetic justice when I turned back to the Red Sox game to see what happened and Carl Crawford couldn't come up with a catch in the outfield and Reimold scored to win the game for the Orioles.  The Red Sox collapse was complete. Unreal, Unbelievable or any other adjective you can come up with is the only way to describe what the Rays have done coming back down 9 games on Sept 3rd to a team that took your all time franchise player. So we head to the playoffs for the 3rd time out of 4 years to play the Texas Rangers.  Rays haven't played well against Texas as far back as I remember but maybe this year.  I know one thing I'm not doubting them at this point and they are headed over to Texas with momentum the only thing I wonder is its a new month and can the Rays top what they did in Sept.?  Who knows but at least I get to watch a playoff game which seemed like a dream a month ago.  Go Rays

AL and NL Wildcard Night

Its the last day of the regular season in Major League Baseball.  The NL and AL wild card spot are still up for grabs.  The Rays host the Yankees and the Red Sox play at Baltimore on the AL side.  On the NL side the Cardinals play at Houston and the Braves host the Phillie's.  Awesome for baseball that it is coming down to the last day but the Braves and Red Sox fans have to be sick to their stomach knowing if they don't get in what a huge collapse it will be considered.  Myself I am a Rays fan and back on Sept 3rd when the Red Sox had a 9 game lead I assumed the season was over but the Rays said in their Lee Corso voice not so fast my friend and have made a huge comeback.  I guess they same could be said for St Louis.  So what will happen?  Thinking with my head and not my heart I think the Yanks beat the Rays tonight and somehow the Sox squeak by the Orioles.  I hope I'm wrong but that's what I think.  The Braves on the other hand I think complete their collapse and lose while St. Louis wins.  Only thing I wonder is if the Rays where to win tonight and Boston lose would the Rays fans hold up signs and tweet to Carl Crawford....How you like me now?

Week 4-NFL Picks

Sunday Oct. 2nd Games

1pm Kickoffs

Carolina at Chicago
Cam Newton vs the quitter Jay Cutler.  I like the Bears D to get it done at home.  Although Jay Cutler could quit by halftime but not against the Panthers.  Bears 21 the Cam Newtons 13.

Buffalo at Cincy
Buffalo is finally excited about something other then chicken wings.  Cincy had one of their players busted last week for taking delivery at his house of 4 pounds of gonja.  I bet that guy is hoping Buffalo does bring chicken wings.  I digress.  Buffalo to get to 4-0 with a score of 28 10.

Tennessee at Cleveland
Kenny Britt is out for the year but not to worry Titans fans you play Cleveland this week so do your self a favor and go tour the Rock and Roll hall of Fame while your there. As far as the game goes Titans 24 Browns 14.

Detroit at Dallas
The Lions are 3-0 for the first time since Washington was president...just kidding.  They have great players on this team with Stafford and Johnson and their defense is legit with Suh and possibly Fairly coming back.  Tony Romeo is the media darling now because he actually played football hurt...wow what a concept.  I will however take the Lions in this one.  28 24 Detroit Rock City.

The Burgh at Houston
Pittsburgh is still ticking a long with a great defense although the Ravens might think otherwise.  Houston has all the weapons on offense and their defense is better especially with the addition of Jonothan Joseph. Houston in an upset if you can call it that 24-21.

New Orleans at Jacksonville
Do I have to say something about this?  New Orleans by a lot.

Minnesota at KC
2 teams that are hurting bad to start the season.  KC looks bad but did play well at the Chargers last week.  The Vikings apparently think you play one half of football.  Vikings with Adrien Peterson finally play a full game and win.  31 21.

SF at Philly
The Niners are off to a 2-1 start but really haven't played anyone.  The Eagles just payed a porcelain doll a $100 million dollar contract however, I don't see the Eagles losing 2 in a row at home I will go with the Eagles 28 14.

Washington at St Louis
The Skins should have won Monday night if they didn't call 3 jail break blitzes at the end of the game but they didn't.  St Louis might be the worst team in the league along with Kansas City.  Skins 21 10.

4pm Kickoffs
Giants at Arizona
Giants had a big road win at Philly.  Cardinals just lost to another bad team in Seattle.  I will go Giants 27 13.

Falcons at Seattle
Matt Ryan bounces back from getting pounded by the Bucs.  Although Seattle has a great home field advantage I will take Atlanta 24 10.

Denver at Green Bay
Anyone stopping Green Bay this year?  Maybe the fighting Timmy Tebow's?  Don't think so Green Bay rolls 35 17

New England at Oakland
Tom Brady I think cut his hair after the Bills loss does that take away his super powers?  Oakland looks to have a good team but I will take the Patriots to bounce back in a close game 28-24.  Even if the Pats lose Brady goes home to Gisele...tough life.

Miami at San Diego
Tony Sporano on the hot seat?  I would say yes.  It will continue to get hot with a loss at San Diego 28 13.

Sunday Night Game
Jets at Ravens
Jets seem over hyped but Baltimore did lose to the Titans but I say the Ravens get it done at home and Rex Ryan signs Joe Namath for the rest of the season because Mark Sanchez signs a modeling contract with GQ.

Monday Night
Colts at Tampa Bay
Curtis Painter?Dan Orslovsky? A mechanical clone QB of Peyton Manning?who will be the QB for the Colts.  Not sure but I will go with the Bucs at home with Josh Freeman finally throwing the ball down field to Mike Williams.  Bucs 24 14.

Week 5- College Football Predictions

Sept 29th #16 South Florida at Pttsburgh (traitors) 8 ESPN.
I see this game as being pretty simple USF beat Notre Dame to start the season and Pitt lost to Notre Dame last week and are traitors to the Big East therefore I say USF 24 Pitt 17.   Go Bulls.

Sept 30th Utah State at BYU (Future Big 12 member?) 8 ESPN
In the Mormon bowl part 2 I see BYU taking out Utah State since I don't have a clue about Utah State and BYU just beat UCF last Friday night so they have be good right?  Sarcasm of course.  I think it ends up being BYU 30 Utah State 20.

Oct 1st #14 Texas A&M vs #18 Arkansas (future conference game) 12 ESPN
Lets see since this is a future SEC conference match up and both teams are coming off tough losses this past week this is hard to predict. Texas A&M giving up a big lead to Oklahoma State and Arkansas getting blasted by Bama I will pick Texas A&M here.  I think Texas A&M realizes you have to play a full 60 minutes and Arkansas didn't look like much to me.  I will say A&M 21 and Arkansas 20.

Oct 1st Minnesota at #19 Michigan 12 Big Ten Network
Lets see Minnesota lost to like North Dakota State last week and Michigan is playing their 20th straight home game so I will say Michigan 35 Minnesota 17.

Oct 1st Northwestern at #24 Illinois 12 ESPN 2
Northwestern I always forget they have a football team until one of their games finally shows up on ESPN.  Then again I could say that about Illinois.  So since the fighting Zookers are ranked I will go with Illinois 21 Northwestern 10.  The TV viewership for this game will be off the charts for sure.

Oct 1st Kentucky at #1 LSU 12:21  ESPN Gameplan
Wonder if Calipari could teach the dribble drive to UK's football team?  Doubt it.  So I think LSU will crush the Blue Bellies for Lexington 45 to 10 LSU.

Oct 1st Auburn at #10 South Carolina 3:30 CBS
Auburn was good last year when they paid Cam Newton $100k to play for them.  This year not so much.  Although South Carolina has a QB in Stephen Garcia that is known to heavily drink the night before a game so I'm going on the notion he wont and South Carolina wins 28 21.

Oct 1st  #15 Baylor at Kansas State 3:30 ESPN or ABC
Baylor has a ranked football team?  Wow.  The reason why is Robert Griffin the third this guy is a beast can run, throw and is a straight up athlete.  Kansas State beat Miami last week and is riding with some confidence after getting that win on the road.  Im going with the upset of Kansas State 27 Baylor 21.

Oct 1st SMU at #20 TCU. 3:30
We haven't heard much about TCU since they lost the first game of the season to Baylor but then again we haven't hear much about SMU since Eric Dickerson and Craig James were there.  TCU 30 SMU 13.

Oct 1st #21 Georgia Tech at NC State 3:30 ESPN/ABC Regional
Georgia Tech with Paul Johnson's offense is putting up around 600 yards of offense per game.  NC state got blasted by Cincy last week and NC State's defense didn't look like it could stop Bolles High School in Jacksonville.  Georgia Tech 40 NC State 21.

Oct 1st Bowling Green at #22 West Virginia 3:30 ESPN Gameplan
West Virginia could hang with the number 1 team in the land and Bowling Green is well......Bowling Green. WVU bounces back 45 17.

Oct 1st #13 Clemson at #11 Virgina Tech 6 ESPN2
Clemson looked good offensively against the Noles last week.  Va Tech usually has a good defense and the game is in Blacksburg at night.  I will go with the Hokies 28 Clemson 24.

Oct 1st #3 Bama at #12 Florida 8 CBS
Ahh the poor Florida Gators think they have a shot against Bama in the Swamp at night.  Think again.  Bama is 7-2 at the Swamp.  Gators will get beat down and realize they are not in Bama's league this year.  Bama 34 UF 17.

Oct 1st #8 Nebraska at #7 Wisconsin 8 ABC
Welcome to the Big Ten Nebraska you know have to play a night game in Madison to open up the conference.  By the way did we mention Wisconsin's home record is like 150-10?  Good luck Wisconsin 28 Nebraska 20.

THE BIGGEST GAME OF THE WEEKEND
Marshall at Louisville 3:30 ESPN Gameplan
Give me a break I'm a Louisville fan as most of you know.  I'm going with the C-A-R-D-S.
UL-45 Marshall 24

Those are my thoughts on some of the games this weekend beginning Thursday Night.  Let me know what you think.

This is my new blog I have set up to talk about sports. Each week I will blog about different topics and stories going in the world of sports. I will also post my predictions each week for college football,NFL games or whatever sport is in season. Lets do it.
